Psalm 23:2
“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.”

Crazy busy.

Sound familiar? Maybe you’ve heard it. Maybe you’ve said it. Life gets so hectic and full that it’s not just busy. It’s crazy busy. Sometimes I wonder if our “busy” is making us crazy?

Serve breakfast. Get the kids to school. Go to work. Catch up on emails. Return phone calls. Attend meetings. Post something inspirational on Instagram. Work through lunch. Pick up the kids from school. Get more work done. Take the kids to practice. Fix dinner. Help kids with homework. Answer more emails. No wait, first spend time with your spouse. Watch Ted Lasso. Go to bed.

Whew! I’m out of breath just typing all of that.

We say it’s just a season to “get through”. We know it’s not sustainable but we push through thinking the end is in sight. But around and around we go on the carousel of life. Exhausted. Spread thin. Scattered. Overwhelmed. Crazy busy.

On our own, we will hurry and scurry and rush and wander aimlessly through life. But in Psalm 23, God our shepherd makes us not just slow down or stop or sit down, but “lie down.” To truly rest. And He wants to lead us away from the roaring seas and the class 5 whitewater rapids. Sometimes we need to be “made” to stop and be still.

Maybe there’s an area of your life right now where God is saying, “Slow down child. Take a deep breath. Trust my lead. Come to me. Lie down. Rest in my love.”

Maybe something has happened to you. A health issue or a job transition or an end to a relationship or something was canceled. And it’s hard and confusing and makes no sense.

But what if it happened for you? Maybe it wasn’t something you wanted but something God knew you needed. Maybe God has something better and greater for you. To rest in Him. To be restored and refreshed and reminded of who He is and who He wants you to be.

Prayer: God, sorry I’ve been too crazy busy to lie down and be led by you. Even when I wander away, thank you for never stopping to love me. Help me to trust your leadership in my life. I commit this day to following you. Amen.
